Privacy Policy
The Philly Jewish Guide ("the Guide," "we," or "this site") is a directory of Jewish community resources — including synagogues, food, lodging, medical resources, community organizations, and more — for residents, visitors, hospital patients, and their families.
This page explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how we use it.
Browsing the directory
You can search, filter, browse listings, and use most features of the Guide without creating an account or providing us with your name or email address.
If you contact us
Our feedback form asks for your message and, optionally, an email address if you would like a response.
We use this information to review and respond to your message and to operate and improve the Guide. We do not sell your contact information or use it for advertising or marketing.
Your submission is stored in the systems we use to operate the Guide and may be processed by service providers that help us host the site, store information, send notifications, prevent spam, or otherwise operate the service.
If you add, edit, or report a listing
You can suggest a new listing, propose an edit, or report a problem with an existing listing. You may optionally provide your name and email address so we can follow up if we have a question.
Information you submit about a listing may become part of the public directory if we approve it. Your personal contact information will not be published simply because you provided it for follow-up, unless you specifically submit that information as public contact information for the listing.
Location
If you choose to share your location, the Guide may use it to help show resources near you or provide location-based features.
We do not intentionally store your precise location in our directory database. Because the Guide uses Google Maps and related mapping services, however, Google may receive technical information and map-related requests when you use those features. Google's handling of that information is governed by Google's own privacy policy and applicable Google Maps terms.
You can stop sharing your location through your browser or device settings.
Information stored on your device
Your browser may locally remember certain preferences, such as which community you are viewing, listings you have saved, or prompts you have dismissed. This information is generally stored on your own device so the Guide can remember your preferences.
Usage and technical information
We use privacy-conscious analytics and error-monitoring tools to understand how the Guide is being used and to identify technical problems.
These services may process technical information such as pages visited, browser or device information, IP address, and information associated with an error. We do not use this information for targeted advertising or to build advertising profiles about our users.
Services we rely on
We use outside service providers to operate parts of the Guide, including hosting, database services, maps and address information, email and notifications, spam protection, analytics, and error monitoring.
These providers may process information on our behalf or receive information through your interaction with their services. Their handling of information is also subject to their own privacy policies and terms.
How long we keep information
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the Guide, respond to requests, review submissions, maintain appropriate records, and meet legal or security needs.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect the information entrusted to us. No website or online service, however, can guarantee absolute security.
Questions or requests
If you have questions about this policy, believe information about you has been published inappropriately, or would like us to delete personal information you previously submitted, please contact us at phillyjewishguide@gmail.com.
Terms of Use
The Philly Jewish Guide is intended to help people find Jewish community resources in and around Philadelphia. By using the Guide, you agree to use it responsibly and lawfully.
Using the Guide
The Guide may be used for ordinary personal, community, informational, and organizational purposes.
You may not use the Guide or information obtained through it to harass, threaten, intimidate, stalk, discriminate against, surveil, target, or harm any person or organization; facilitate illegal activity; compromise the privacy, safety, or security of a person or organization; or collect or compile information for such purposes.
You may not use automated tools to scrape, harvest, systematically download, or create a bulk database of information from the Guide without our permission.
If we believe the Guide is being used in a way that threatens the safety or privacy of others or interferes with operation of the site, we may restrict access or take other appropriate action.
Accuracy of information
We work to keep the Guide useful, accurate, and current, including by reviewing community-submitted updates. Information can nevertheless change without notice.
For information that is particularly time-sensitive or important — such as hours, minyan times, kosher certification, lodging availability, medical services, or eligibility requirements — users should confirm details directly with the relevant organization or provider when appropriate.
Listings are not endorsements
The inclusion of a business, synagogue, organization, service, individual, or other resource in the Guide does not constitute an endorsement, recommendation, certification, or guarantee by the Philly Jewish Guide.
Unless specifically stated otherwise, the Guide is not affiliated with or acting on behalf of the organizations and businesses listed.
Medical and emergency information
The Guide may identify hospitals, medical resources, lodging near medical facilities, food resources, and related services. This information is provided as a community resource and is not medical advice or emergency assistance.
In an emergency, contact the appropriate emergency services or medical provider directly.
Information submitted by users
If you submit a listing, correction, photograph, description, or other information, you represent that you have the right to provide it and that, to the best of your knowledge, it is accurate and does not violate another person's privacy or rights.
Please do not submit confidential information, private personal information, security information, or other information that is not appropriate for public display.
By submitting material intended for a public listing, you give the Philly Jewish Guide permission to review, edit, reproduce, and publish that material as part of operating and promoting the Guide. We may accept, reject, edit, or remove submissions at our discretion.
Third-party services and links
The Guide contains information about and links to third-party businesses, organizations, websites, mapping services, and other resources. We do not control those third parties and are not responsible for their content, availability, privacy practices, actions, or services.
Use of Google Maps features is also subject to Google's applicable terms and privacy policies.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Philly Jewish Guide and the people and organizations involved in operating it are not liable for losses, injuries, damages, or claims arising from reliance on directory information, actions of listed organizations or third parties, interruption or unavailability of the Guide, or misuse of information obtained through the Guide.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited or excluded.
Reporting a concern
If you believe a listing is inaccurate, violates someone's privacy, contains information that could create a safety or security concern, or otherwise should not appear in the Guide, please let us know through the site's reporting feature or contact us at phillyjewishguide@gmail.com.
